An artistic marathon celebrating the residents of Dudley Zoological Gardens
The Zoo Project was an intensive artist society exhibition challenge that pushed creative boundaries to their limits. With just 7 days to complete two original 50cm x 50cm acrylic paintings, I dedicated over 100 hours of work - averaging 3 days per piece with little to no sleep, fuelled purely by artistic passion and the desire to honour these magnificent zoo residents.
Each piece in this collection features animals that actually live at the zoo, captured not just as artistic subjects but as individual personalities with their own stories and spirits. Using my signature blending technique, every detail was meticulously hand-painted in layers, leaving virtually no brushstrokes visible even in the most intricate features.
This collection represents both an artistic achievement and a celebration of the deep connection between humans and the animal kingdom, honouring the residents who inspire wonder and conservation awareness in all who visit. -
Baby Jim | Original Acrylic Painting
Where innocence meets ancient wisdom
Meet "Baby Jim" - a captivating portrait of one of the zoo's most beloved recent arrivals, a baby orangutan whose soulful expression captured my heart instantly. Baby Jim's dreamy eyes reflect the sky itself, while his cheeky smirk reveals the playful spirit that makes orangutans so endearing. Every detail has been meticulously hand-painted in layers using my signature blending technique that leaves no visible brushstrokes in the details.
Orangutans symbolize wisdom, patience, and the deep connection between humanity and nature. They represent our responsibility as guardians of the natural world and remind us of the gentle intelligence that exists in all living beings. Baby Jim embodies innocence, curiosity, and the pure joy of discovery.
This piece holds special meaning as orangutans are central to my artistic identity - "Ranga" represents both the abbreviated "orangutan" and "red-haired person," connecting my ginger heritage with these magnificent creatures. As I often say, we're "brothers from other mothers!"

Fabulous Flamingo | Original Acrylic Painting
Where grace meets maternal transformation
This stunning flamingo portrait, inspired by the elegant beauty and grace of this remarkable zoo resident. The subtle white feathers and beak are the crown jewels of this composition, painted with delicate precision using my signature blending technique that leaves no visible brushstrokes.
Flamingos represent balance, grace, and the transformative power of motherhood. Uniquely among animals, female flamingos change colour after becoming mothers - their vibrant pink fading as they pour their energy into caring for their young. This powerful symbol reminds us of the selfless love and demanding nature of nurturing others, honouring the sacrifice and beauty of maternal devotion.
The striking contrast between coral and turquoise creates a vibrant harmony that celebrates the flamingo's natural elegance, while the soulful turquoise depths reflect the spiritual journey of transformation through love and care.Artwork Details:
